The project design for the new plant has already been completed and is awaiting the approval of the newly reconstituted Ghana Gas board. The board is chaired by John Amstrong Yao Kilingo. Once the designed concept has been approved, construction work on the new plant will immediately commence, said Sipa Yankey.

Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Armah Kofi Buah urged the gas board to put an end to the country’s intermittent gas shortage. However, when completed the gas plant will be feed with gas from the TEN field whereby it will be expected to produce about 25million standard cubic feet of gas in a day.

According to Sipa Yankey, the second gas plant which is at the moment being designed, will have a bigger capacity production than the first one. The second plant will produce about 250 million standard cubic feet of gas on a daily basis. Ghana Gas is responsible to construct, own and operate infrastructure required for the gathering, processing, transporting and marketing of natural gas resources in Ghana.

The company was incorporated in July 2011 and is a mid-stream gas business company committed to accelerate the nation’s effort of rapid industrialization by providing cost competitive natural gas and gas based products for domestic markets including the development of petrochemical industries, fertilizer and power generation, as well as export markets.

Ghana Gas is also mandated to process, transport, market and sell natural gas and Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) produced locally in Ghana. The company operates on a business model which primarily obtains revenue through processing, transportation, selling of Natural Gas and NGLs.
